What Is Meant By Heaven -  I

Heaven can be the sky above, including the visible universe, as well as the Place where the Creators dwell and believers are resurrected. The latter is also known as Paradise. Yet what does that word mean?

In Hebrew the noun for heaven is often the plural ha-shamayim. Yet the Greek text in Matthew deliberately employs both singular and plural forms of ό ούρανός. Translators need to respect this, since it has technical meaning on a number of levels. It is “our Father who is in the heavens,” not “in heaven”, although Didache viii,2 employs the singular and it was written during the forties CE. The “heavens” is the Thrones Room, yet may also refer to a higher place.

Second Corinthians 12:2-4

The words of the false apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 limit what may be defined as Eluhiym’s Heaven. Here, though, he would object to it being called this, since he preferred the pagan Greek τοϋ Θεοϋ to Eluhiym.

He wrote, “I know a man in Christ fourteen years ago -  whether in the body I know not or out of the body I know not, ho THEOS knows -  such a man was caught up to the third heaven. 2. And I know that such a man -  whether in the body or apart from the body I know not, ho THEOS knows –  was caught up into Paradise  4. and he heard unspeakable statements, which man is not permitted to speak.”

It is highly doubtful that the newly appointed apostle sent out by the church in Antioch had ever visited the real heaven for these reasons. First, he provides no description of it. Second, his details are typically blurry. Third, what secrets statements did he hear which cannot be shared? Why even mention it except to big note himself. Fourth, his monologue is all about himself and his mysterious thorn in the flesh, a messenger from Satan.

Since he referred to Yeshuwa as Satan, this comes as no surprise. Yeshuwa told Ananias that He would punish Sha’uwl for persecuting Him (“he will bear the burden of My name … and suffer,” according to Acts 9:15-16). Until he stopped preaching his Jesus Buddha, that thorn would remain. Nor was he allowed to forget that his soul belonged to Yeshuwa and not THEOS.

What he, in fact, visited was the “heaven” within the bright light at the end of the dark swirling tunnel, descriptions of which vary according to NDERs. This event took place after he had been stoned by pursuing Jews and left for dead outside Lystra on the Jewish Sabbath, October 26, 43 CE. Luke records it in Acts 14:19-20.

The Meaning Of Paradise

As a Mahayana Buddhist Bodhisattwa he may have equated this “paradise” or “third heaven” with a half-way house between life on Earth and nirvana. His companion Luke mentions it but once in 23:43 where the repentant thief is promised Paradise by the Lord. Both had in mind the paradise of Amitabha-Buddha, whose ‘immeasurable brilliance’ Sha’uwl of Tarsus supposedly experienced outside Damascus.

“As a monk (Gautama Siddhartha) took an oath that he would become a Buddha if as a result of this a paradise could be formed in which all who had prayed to him in their lifetime could live happily after death. The resulting land of Sukhavati or “paradise of the west” is a place where all hindrances to full salvation are removed, so that the way to nirvana is clear…”.1)

If this is true, then merely by praying to Siddhartha the cycle of birth-death-rebirth comes to an end. He certainly knew how to bargain with Dharmakaya or Adibuddha, the original Buddha. Not even Eluhiym would allow this. It is the height of arrogance. In his Christian adaptation of Buddhism the apostle Paul simply swapped Gautama with Jesus, giving his gospel Mediterranean appeal.

Paradise is not mentioned in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and John. None record that event on the cross. Did it happen? Were those words spoken?
