Abraham Was No Monotheist -  IV

That came about by confusing the two names and imposing El Elyown onto El Shadday, so creating on the one hand a loving, yet monstrous Creator on the other. Marcion the Gnostic bishop of Sinopé was quick to pick up on this when he selected the apostle Paul’s letters and Luke’s Gospel for his canon.

Yeshuwa, of course, was the only-begotten Son of El Shadday and naturally He spoke a lot about love and salvation. And if one is to believe the apostle Paul, that is all He apparently talked about too.

The Frightening Side To Yeshuwa

Yet there is another side to Yeshuwa. Like El Elyown the Possessor of Heaven and Earth (Genesis 14:19,20,22), the Judge of all men (18:25) and Destroyer of the firstborn in Mitsrayim (Exodus 13:13) as well as the Hyksos army in Exodus 14:28-29, He predicted in 30 CE and brought about the destruction of the temple forty years later (24:1-2). He also cursed Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum in 11:20-24, and is the Judge in 7:21-23 and 25:31-46. Yes, He uses human armies and Nature to carry out His purposes.

Furthermore He is the Protector of Marriage, judging and punishing those who commit adultery, have multiple partners and/or engage in same sex coupling. In the Abraham narrative El Elyown protected the marriage between him and Sarah against the likes of Pharaoh and Abiymelek (Abimelech). He told Abraham to listen to his wife when Hagar and Yishma’el were sent away, that is, divorced, and led His servant to find Rebeqah for his son Yitschaq. Much of the legal talk in Matthew 5 has the experiences of Abraham, Yitschaq and Ya’aqob in mind, not Mosheh.

The clue that there was more to the title Angel of Yahuw’ah than meets the eye arose out of the Sadducean denial of the existence of angels. One may indeed wonder why they only recognise the Five Books of Mosheh as inspired scripture. Did they, that is, their forefathers, have something to do with putting YHWH everywhere in those books when, until Exodus 6:2-3, it was completely unknown? Should they have done that?

Yohannan the Dipper’s Tirade

Those Pharisees and Sadducees who came to be baptised by Yohannan the Dipper in the shallow Jordan River were given a tongue lashing by him without explaining why.

“Offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath” (Matthew 3:7)? Offspring is a better word here than brood, since it points to their forefathers. They had done something very wrong and truly poisonous.

He continued, “Produce therefore fruit worthy of repentance and do not presume to say among yourselves, ‘As father we have Abraham’, for I tell you that Eluhiym is able from these stones to raise children to Abraham” (3:8-9). So what did they have to repent over and why the association with Abraham? Indeed there was a lot of built up anger and resentment towards these two groups by Yohannan who baptised Yeshuwa.

Yeshuwa’s Anger

His was an anger shared too by Yeshuwa. In Matthew 23:33 He railed against the scribes and Pharisees, “Serpents, offspring of vipers, how are you to escape the judgement of Gehenna (Lake of Fire)?”

Their fathers had shed the blood of the prophets. “Therefore behold, I send to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on Earth from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zekaryah, son of Barachyah, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar” (23:34-35). Why had there been all this particular bloodshed?

Evidently His contention with the scribes and Pharisees goes way back to Abel, the son of Adam and Chav-vah, who was killed by Cain. Yeshuwa is talking about the whole Law and the Prophets. What have they done to them?

The Confrontation In John 8

John chapter 8 may provide some insight. Yeshuwa was speaking to the Pharisees. ”37. I know that you are Abraham’s seed, yet you seek to kill Me, because My word finds no room in you.” Then He makes a cryptic comment.
