Abraham Was No Monotheist -  V

“38. Whatever I have seen with the Father I speak, and you therefore do what you have heard from the Father.”

“39. They answered and said to Him, “Our father is Abraham.” Yeshuwa said to them, “If you are children of Abraham, you do the deeds of Abraham (that is circumcise). 40. But now you seek to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from [Eluhiym] El Shadday; this Abraham did not (do).”

Next Yeshuwa questions who their ‘father’ might be, if not Abraham. “41. You do what your father did.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication. One Father we have - [Eluhiym] El Shadday.”

Now this conversation occurred in Hebrew, not Greek or Aramaic. For good reason Yeshuwa is reflecting the original name of the Father in the Abraham narrative. He knows full well what the sons of Tsadoq (Zadok) had done to the Towrah. Logically Yahuw’ah was never used. So which other Name was?

“42. Yeshuwa said to them, “If [Eluhiym] El Shadday were your Father, you would love me, for I from El Shadday came forth and have come. For I have not come of Myself, but that One sent Me. 43. Why do you not understand My speaking. Because you cannot hear My word.” It is very frustrating not to be understood, as though one does not matter.

Yeshuwa continues (literally), “44. You are of the father of the devil (the devil’s father) and the desires of your father you wish to do. That one was a murderer from the beginning, and in the truth he has not stood, because the truth is not in him. When he speaks the lie, out of his own store he speaks, because he is a liar and its father.”

The father of the devil (διαβόλου) is Ba’alzebub. OM is the devil. This explains why Yeshuwa in Matthew 23:35 goes right back to Abel who was murdered by Cain for getting circumcised. And Ba’alzebub had more than murder in mind. He perpetuated lies, especially about non-circumcision or remaining intact and who is the ‘real’ Father.

“45. But because I say the truth, you do not believe Me. 46. Who among you convicts Me of sin? If I say the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47. He who is of Eluhiym hears the words of Eluhiym. For this reason you do not hear, because you are not of Eluhiym.” Eluhiym is the wider family to which El Shadday belongs.

The Jews then accused Him of being a Samaritan and possessing a demon. Dismissing the snide Samaritan remark He defended Himself. “49. I have not a demon, but I honour My Father and you dishonour Me. 50. Yet I do not seek My own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.” Here He is not blowing His own trumpet, but defending His tarnished reputation.

At this point He ramps up the debate. “51. Truly, truly, I say to you, if any one keeps My Word, death he will certainly never behold.” The Greek είς τόν αϊώα means “unto the age” and has in mind the Hebrew ‘ad ‘olam, meaning “forever”. So He was thinking of eternal death, not physical. When He predicted earlier that He would destroy the temple and in three days raise it up (John 2:19), it took less than that amount of time for the Romans to accidentally destroy their temple and it would never be raised up again, echoing Lamentations 2:6b and the Temple of Shelomoh (Solomon).

“53. You are not greater than our father Abraham who died. And the prophets died. Who do You make Yourself out to be?” The answer given and the Jews’ reaction gets to the heart of the issue.

“54. Yeshuwa answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father who glorifies Me, whom you say He is our [Eluhiym] El Shadday. 55. And you have not known Him, but I know Him. If I say that I do not know Him, I shall be like you a liar; yet I do know Him and I keep His word.”

Now comes the crescendo. “56. Abraham your father jumped for joy (ήγαλλιάσατο from αγαλλιάο) that he should see My day, and he saw and rejoiced (έχάρη).” What Yeshuwa is doing here is declaring that as El Most High he physically saw Him. After all, Abraham was His friend. Everyone who believes in Yeshuwa wants to see Him in person (John 6:40) and not by faith. This Abraham did.

After His ascension it was only possible to see His wounds for a short time and Thomas Didymus was permitted to touch them (John 20:26-29). This is how “blessed are those who believe” is to be understood.

*RA stands for Re’eh Adonay - “friend of the Lord” (John 15:14-16). It is the best qualification.
